Smart Beginnings of
Danville-Pittsylvania County believes it's time to invest in early childhood. Smart Beginnings of Danville-Pittsylvania County is a coalition of public and private organizations, businesses, and volunteers working together to increase community-wide awareness and support for a system to ensure that every child enters kindergarten healthy and ready to succeed in school and life.

Research indicates:

- Approximately 20% of local children arrive at kindergarten NOT ready.

- A child that enters kindergarten behind, often stays behind, at a tremendous cost to society.

- High quality early care and education programs can yield as much as 17% annually for every $1 invested.

- Over 85% of brain development takes place between ages 0-5.

Smart Beginnings of Danville Pittsylvania County mobilizes the collective community power to focus on four core components for early childhood development:

3. Health, Mental Health and Nutrition

4. Strengthening the Community
