The Danville Regional Foundation, United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania
County, and The Future of the Piedmont Foundation have jointly
published and released a comprehensive Community Report Card for the
Dan River Region.The
document tracks 21 indicators across 5 primary categories:education, financial stability, economic vitality, health, and
civic engagement.
The organizations announced the availability of the data-based report
card Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at United Way.The Danville Regional Foundation is focused on regional
transformation across all 5 of the card's areas of focus. The work of the Future of the Piedmont Foundation centers on
the economic vitality section, and United Way will use the data to
drive its "Advancing the Common Good" agenda in education, income, and
health.However, while
each of the organizations will use the data in ways that advance their
own missions, their intention is to drive community-wide vision and
strategic purpose in improving life for our region.
"We hope that people and institutions throughout this region will use
this information to better understand changes occurring, target
opportunities for additional investments of time and energy, and
change the conversations to focus on how we make the region a better
place for all," said Karl Stauber, President/CEO of the Danville
Regional Foundation.
Originally prepared by Danville Regional Foundation interns, the
report contains active links to the source of each statistic. In each case, the group used the most recent data available
from an independent or government agency.None of the data has been collected by any of the three
sponsors of the Report Card.
United Way President/CEO Patrick Jinks stressed that while the
document does not contain recommendations on any specific actions, it
does provide the framework for understanding what the big issues are
in the community that a critical mass can agree on."The data takes us to a macro view of community issues, and
hopefully inspires greater collaboration and more powerful leveraging
of community resources," he said.
The group intends to release an annual version of the Regional Report
Card in order to see trends, and follow the track record of efforts to
improve each area.Both
summary and comprehensive versions are available on this page.
