FOCUS ON ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE:

Our second area of focus addresses the issue of the uninsured.  In Danville-Pittsylvania County, approximately 1/4 of the population is without sufficient health insurance.

In addition, wellness and prevention are important, as our area has high rates of heart disease, hypertension, and cancer.

Making sure people have access to the health care they need, while at the same time working to improve the health of our community overall, your United Way is investing in the following programs:

Case Management and Access for the Uninsured
Partner:
Piedmont Access to Health Services
Objective: provide a full-service, comprehensive avenue of care for the un/under-insured.

Nurse Practitioner Program
Partner:
Free Clinic of Danville
Objective: Increase the capacity of the Free Clinic to handle the growing client load it serves.

Specialized Cancer Patient Aid Program
Partner:
Danville Cancer Association
Objective: Provide an extra level of patient care for cancer patients who are uninsured, underinsured, or whose insurance does not cover certain high-cost prescription drugs, and other cancer patient aids.

Therapy and Rehabilitation Programs
Partner:
Danville Speech and Hearing Center
Objective: Provide specialized training, equipment, and courses of care for individuals with hearing and/or speech disabilities.

Smart Choices Nutrition Education
Partner:
Virginia Cooperative Extension
Objective: To promote health, fitness, and nutrition among youth, and have a positive effect on the eating and exercise habits of kids.
