Campaign Report
By Shahnaz Ahmed & Brian Bonar
2006 Campaign Co-Chairs

For United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County , reaching the campaign goal each year is vitally important.  The resources we are able to garner are invested in our community with a strategic, intentional purpose.  In September 2006, we knew we were accepting a big challenge of finding sufficient means to carry out United Way ’s mission.  As co-chairs of the 2006-07 United Way Campaign, we are so glad to report, despite many difficult economic challenges, the citizens of the City of Danville and Pittsylvania County count it as a top priority to sustain their own United Way .

Working on the 2006-07 campaign for United Way exposed many truths to us about our community and its sentiment toward helping others.  Individuals and companies that could gave more.  Most donors who have given in the past continued to show their commitment to United Way .  Many supporters understood that giving something was better than giving nothing.  New supporters responded to our plea for help.  All in all, the campaign was a success that this community can be proud of.

Many changes took place in the last year. Long-standing corporate supporters left the area.  Our neighbors and friends found themselves looking for new and different jobs.  Organizations reported more requests for services and diminished means to supply those needs.  And yet, so many people in our community continue to recognize the value of United Way .  Change is going to happen.  By supporting United Way , people found a way to make change better.

Many companies and households had to learn to make every penny count.  The financial support shown during the 2006-07 Campaign clearly reflected the community’s priorities: EDUCATION, ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE, STRENGTHENING NEIGHBORHOODS, STRENGTHENING YOUTH & FAMILIES, and ASSISTING INDVIDUALS and FAMILIES IN CRISIS.  Every dollar raised blessed our community.

We are so grateful to the companies and individuals who decided to step up from wherever they were to make a difference.  On behalf of the board and staff at United Way , we want to thank all who contributed so generously.

Way to go citizens of Danville and Pittsylvania County !  You are phenomenal!
